January

January 8th  Welcome Home event for Army Veteran Nicholas Moody at the Susanville Elks Lodge.

January 15th  Community and Veteran assist - BSM’s helped with set up, servicing & clean up at Veteran and Officer Rob McElrath’s Memorial Service.

January 18th  BSM’s Potluck, Meeting & 2010 -2011 Officer Installation

January 19th  Veteran/Retired Main Street Banner Presentation at the City Council Meeting at the City Hall.

January 28th  BSM’s get a visit from California Assemblyman Dan Logue at the Veterans Hall

January 28th BSM President, Christine Boyd received Community Volunteer of the Year at the Lassen County Chambers of Commerce 123rd Annual

February

February 15th  BSM's General Meeting & Annual Photo Shoot

February 17th  Wounded Warrior assist at the Pella Pro Expos in San Jose, California. BSM assisted Homes for Our Troops at their informational table.

 

March

March 7th  Wounded Warrior assist - BSM’s had a Donuts 4 Donation sale at the Front Entrance at High Desert State Prison. All Proceeds went to Marine Sgt.

                       Dylan Gray’s Homes for Our Troops Build Brigade.

March 11th  Farewell Party for Susanville Army Recruiter and Friend SSGT Lyman Moak at the Main Street Bowl.

March 11th - 13th  Wounded Warrior assist - Homes for Our Troops, Build Brigade in Wellington, Nevada. BSM’s presented $1,500.00 from the Doughnuts 4

                           Donation sale at High Desert State Prison.

March 19th  Operation Letters from Home - Collected 630 letters from our community and shipped to the Troops overseas.

March 27th  Send off at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for Airman Jared Boucher  

March             BSM’s help assist Girl Scout Troop 373 with many cookie booth’s throughout the month of March gathering cookie donations for Cookies for a Cause.

 

April

April 2nd  Operation Cover Up - Work Day. BSM’s measured, cut and pinned over 75 blankets to be hand tied.

April 3rd  BSM’s Bowling Tournament Fundraiser. All proceeds go towards building our Welcome Home American Hero and Veterans Thank You sign, with light

                    and flag pole.

April 6th  BSM’s helped bake desserts, serve and clean up at the Diamond Mountain Casino Fundraiser Dinner for High School Senior CT Neely who is        

                    battling Leukemia.

April 10th  Girl Scout Cookie Packing Party - BSM’s help assist Girl Scouts with packing boxes to be shipped to our troops overseas.

April 13th  BSM President Christine Boyd was a Guest Speaker at the California Correctional Center Veteran Inmate meeting re: What we do and how they can help us

                      with their food sale donations.

April 15th  Welcome Home at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for Shawna Schuyler - US Army.

April 16th  Operation Cover Up - Delivery Day. BSM’s handed out blankets at two local nursing homes and in Lassen County to some well deserving elderly Veterans.

April 20th  Joint Veterans Dinner . Blue Star Moms helped bake desserts, serve & clean up.

April 25th  Welcome Home American Hero & Veteran Thank You sign dedication in Milford.

 

May

May 2nd  Doughnut & Muffin Sale at High Desert State Prison to help raise money to send BSM’s to BSMoA Convention in Washington DC.

May 6th  USO Show and Dinner at the Elks Lodge. BSM’s helped set up, serve and clean up.

May 7th  Welcome Home at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for Bryce Dowdy, US Army.

May 7th  Lassen County Children’s Fair - BSM’s had a booth where children could come and decorate a free Spirit Stick.

May 12th  Attended the Funeral of Fallen Hero KIA Preston J. Dennis - US Army in Redding, California.

May 30th  Memorial Day BSM’s attended Memorial Day Ceremonies and presented a wreath.

May 30th  BSM’s Purchased 10 bouquets of flowers for Washington DC Memorials, in Memory of all the Fallen.

 

June

June 14th  BSM’s Hot Dog Fundraiser at High Desert State Prison. We sold our Famous ¼ lb All Beef Hot Dogs with all the fixings to raise money for the

                     BSMoA Convention in Washington DC.

June 16th  Welcome Home at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for Chad Bortle - US Army.

June 18th  BSM’s set up an informational booth at the Trails to Glory festival in Susanville.

June 27th  BSM’s travel to Sacramento to our State Capitol for a Resolution Presentation by Assemblyman Dan Logue on the Assembly floor.

                      We also took a tour and had lunch at the Olive Garden.

June 30th  Doughnut & Muffin Sale at High Desert State Prison to help raise money to send BSM’s to BSMoA Convention in Washington DC.

 

July

July 2nd  BSM’s help the Marine Corps League with set-up, service and clean up at the Marine Corps League Breakfast.

July 4th  Chester 4th of July Parade the Soaring Eagle BSM’s marched with Feather River BSM’s.

July 11th  Attended the funeral of US Army Veteran Henri Sanchez.

 

August

August 6th  BSM’s help the Marine Corps League with set-up, service and clean up at the Marine Corps League Breakfast.

August 9th - 13th  Blue Star Mothers of America 69th Convention in Washington DC. Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms sent 4 Mothers to the Convention, Christine Boyd, 

                                    Shannon Martin, Berva Treat and Diana Hanson.

August 11th  Community assist - BSM’s baked desserts, served and cleaned up at the Diamond Mountain Casino Fundraiser for Tyler Sykes who has Cancer.

August 29th - 31st  BSM’s assisted the family of our Blue Star Sister Angela Harper while she was in ICU in Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada.

January 5th Hung 13 Main Street Banners along Main Street Susanville (Group 2)

February 12th Soaring Eagle BSM partnered with Windjammer Cable for Talked to your Troops Day. This event allowed soldiers and their families to talk for free.

February 16th Soaring Eagle BSM Chapter Photo Shoot for the Blue Star Mothers of America Yearbook

 

March

March -         During the Month of March the Soaring Eagle BSM helped Brownie Troop 373 raise Girl Scout Cookie donations for “Cookies for a Cause”

March 16th Soaring Eagle BSM invited ServiceFlags.Com of Sparks, Nevada to attend our meeting and sale their Blue Star Mother merchandise.

March 20th Operation Cover Up Blanket Making Party. Soaring Eagle BSM held our First Blanket Making Party where we measured, cut and hand tied 60  

                         fleece blankets for our veterans in two local nursing homes. The blanket material had the veterans branch emblem and design on them.

 

April

April 2nd Welcome Home at the Reno Airport for Chris Mancebo, US National Guard. Chris is the husband and father of two of our associates.

April 3rd Operation Cover Up Delivery Day at the Eagle Lake Village & Country Villa Riverview nursing homes.

April 21st Soaring Eagle BSM assisted Brownie Troops 373 with their Packing Party. The Brownie Troop collected and shipped the cookies to our Troops

                     overseas out of their own budget as part of their Brownie Project.

April 21st Soaring Eagle BSM served our local veterans at the Joint Veterans Dinner

April -       Soaring Eagle BSM purchased a Mobile TV Cart and DVD Player for the New Susanville VA Clinic

 

May

May 1st Lassen County Children’s Fair - Soaring Eagle BSM had a booth where children could come and decorate a free Spirit Stick.

May 7th Welcome Home at the Reno Airport for Lane Morrow, US Marines. Son of member Christine Boyd.

May 15th Presented 5 Gold Star Banners to the Family of AM1 (AW) Anthony Lee Hockett, US Navy. President and Blue to Gold Liaison, Christine Boyd

                    and Chaplain Joanne Darlington attended. Mr. Hockett died of a non-combat death.

May 18th Lassen County Sheriff Candidates, Dean Growden and Michael Bengoa-Bollinger attended and spoke briefly to our members and associates at our

                    BSM meeting.

May 21st - 23rd Susanville Indian Rancheria’s 1st Annual Memorial Pow Wow. Soaring Eagle BSM served our famous ¼ lb All Beef Hot Dogs with all the

                                fixings in the wind, rain, sleet and snow.

May 25th We hung 18 Main Street Banners (Group 5)

May 31st Memorial Day - Chapter President Christine Boyd attended services at Susanville Cemetery, Lassen Cemetery and Diamond Crest Cemetery. Christine

                   Boyd spoke and laid a wreath at the Diamond Crest Cemetery Memorial. Ann Cordero (member) attended, spoke and laid a wreath at the Chester Memorial

                   Day service in Plumas County.

 

June

June 12th Grizz Bowl - Correctional Officer Football Game. Soaring Eagle BSM sold our famous sweet treats (Chocolate Chip & Sugar Cookies, Brownies & Rice

                     Krispy Treats) for $1.  The money raised help to send Christine Boyd and Ann Cordero to the National Blue Star Mothers of America Convention.

June 14th Flag Day - Soaring Eagle BSM attended the Flag Day Ceremony at the Susanville Veterans Memorial Park.

June 21st Chester VFW Meeting - President Christine Boyd attended and spoke at the VFW meeting in Chester. Trying to get a Blue Star Mothers chapter started in

                    Plumas County.

June 29th We hung 12 Main Street Banners (Group 6)

June 29th Soaring Eagle BSM attend the LMUD Board Meeting and spoke about our appreciation for the LMUD Company volunteering to hang all our Main

                     Street Banners.

 

July

July 1st Welcome Home at the Reno Airport for Dana Robson, US Army. Daughter of member Patty Robson

July 4th Soaring Eagle BSM marched in the Chester 4th of July Parade. Dana Robson, US Army (daughter of member Patty Robson) carried our Blue Star Mothers

                 flag.

July 13th We hung 12 Main Street Banners (Group7)

July 16th Home Coming for the body of Fallen Hero - LCPL Tyler L. Roads in Burney, California. President and Blue to Gold Liaison, Christine Boyd and her

                    family attended and held up large American Flag.

July 17th Presented 5 Gold Star Banners to the Family of LCPL Tyler L. Roads, US Marines. LCPL Roads was killed in combat in Afghanistan. President

                    and Blue to Gold Liaison, Christine Boyd presented banners.

July 19th Presented a Gold Star Banner to Mary Lay the Mother of PFC Richard E. Huff, US Marines that was killed in combat in Vietnam. President and Blue to

                    Gold Liaison, Christine Boyd presented Mrs. Lay of Chester with a Gold Star Banner that she had never received. PFC Huff died on April 11, 1969.

July 21st USO Variety Show - President Christine Boyd spoke at the USO Variety Show at the Lassen County Fair.

July 31st Aug 1st Military Moms March for a Cure - The Soaring Eagle BSM Team walked for 24 hours to raise money for the fight against caner in the Susanville

                                   Relay for Life. Team Captain: Joanne Darlington and Co-Captain Teri Lowe.

 

August

August 3rd We hung 14 Main Street Banners (Group 8)

August 10th-14th 68th Annual Blue Star Mothers of America Convention in Grand Junction, Colorado - President Christine Boyd and member Ann

                                    Cordero attended and represented the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms.

August 18th Soaring Eagle BSM attend the Grand Opening of the Susanville Veterans Out-Patient Clinic

 

September

September 6th Patriotic Week 2010 - The Soaring Eagle BSM tied red, white & blue and yellow ribbons up and down Main Street Susanville. We also encouraged

                               the Lassen County community and businesses to display their American Flags and Patriotic items during the 9/11 week.

September 11th President Christine Boyd attended a 9/11 Memorial in Yuba City with the Tri-County BSM.

September 11th Soaring Eagle BSM put on a Silent Auction during the High Desert Brawl at the Diamond Mountain Casino to raise money for our

                                 BSM Chapter.

September 14th Soaring Eagle BSM Hot Dog Fundraiser at High Desert State Prison. We sold our Famous ¼ lb All Beef Hot Dogs with all the fixings to raise

                                 money for our BSM Chapter.

September 18th The Soaring Eagle BSM set up and informational table with sweet treats at the Susanville Car Show.

September 18th Welcome Home at the Reno Airport for Casey Lee, US Army.

September 21st Presented a Gold Star Banner to Mr. Danny Williams the Grandfather of PFC Phillip Brandon Williams, US Army that was killed in combat in Iraq

                                 on October 9, 2006. President and Blue to Gold Liaison, Christine Boyd presented banner.

September 21st The Soaring Eagle BSM sent $500 to Homes for Our Troops from the money raised at the Hot Dog Fundraiser.

September 28th We hung 9 Main Street Banners (Group 9)

 

October

October -      Soaring Eagle BSM held several Care Package Drives in Susanville to collect donation items for Care Packages to ship to our Troops overseas.

October 9th Send Off at the Reno Airport for Brittani Mack, US Air Force.

October 14th Soaring Eagle BSM serve at a Dinner Fundraiser for a little boy who has Leukemia. BSM also baked dessert for the Diamond Mountain

                           Casino Fundraiser.

October 23rd Soaring Eagle BSM attend the funeral of a Fallen Hero, SGT Frank R. Zaehringer III, US Marines in Reno, Nevada.

October 29th Soaring Eagle BSM Packing Party set up at the Susanville Veterans Memorial Building. Care Package Chairman: Shannon Martin

October 30th Soaring Eagle BSM Care Package Packing Party - We shipped 244 Care Packages to our Troops overseas. Each Soldier received 3 boxes.

 

November

November 11th Soaring Eagle BSM march and sing cadence in the Susanville Veterans Day Parade

November 16th Soaring Eagle BSM presented Jim Chapman with an appreciation award recognizing his unwavering support for our sons and daughter

                                 serving home and abroad.

 

December

December -     Soaring Eagle BSM partnered with XX Country for Holiday Salutes. During the month of December Military Families were able to call in and record

                             their Holiday Salute to their soldier and salutes were played during the Christmas weekend.

December 4th Soaring Eagle BSM ride in the Susanville Christmas Parade on a float design by Banner Lassen Medical Center, Celebrating our American Heroes.

December 15th Soaring Eagle BSM served at the Joint Veterans Christmas Dinner.

 

 

 

2009

 

 

Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms - California Chapter 22

In January we held our first Chapter Elections.

 

In February we launched our first Operation with Letters from Home and Our Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms Website and as of today we have had 6,606 views.

 

In March we helped the Brownie Troops of Herlong & Susanville sell Girl Scout Cookies to go to our Soldiers overseas, We had our First Chapter Photo shoot for the Blue Star Mothers of America Yearbook and Chapter Installation with National Blue Star Mother Wendy Hoffman via a cell phone making us an official Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America.

 

In April we served our Veterans at the Joint Veterans BBQ and started our first fundraiser with Avon to raise money for our Chapter.

 

 In May we made Spirit Sticks at the Lassen County Children’s Fair and our Chapter presented our first Gold Star Banner to the Family of Spc. Jeremiah McCleery.

 

In June we sold sweet treats at the Grizz Bowl raising money to send me to the National Blue Star Mothers of America Convention, we had our first Shipping Party. We shipped 16 large boxes to Soldiers in the sandbox and presented a 4 Star - Blue Star Banner to Christie Cox of Westwood.

 

In July we entered in our first parade at the Chester 4th of July Parade, we served our Veterans at the VFW Dinner and we joined the Veterans Memorial Building Task Force.

 

In August I attended the Blue Star Mothers of America Convention in Boise, Idaho.

 

In September we started our “Support Our Troops” Cell Phone Lanyard Fundraiser and with the help of Patty Robson we hung our Soldiers photos in the All American Café next door to the Pioneer.

 

In October we held two Hot Dog Fundraiser, raising $4,343.57 for Homes for Troops and we held our second Chapter Officer Elections.

 

In November with the idea and help of Lassen County Supervisor Jim Chapman and LMUD Craig Lima, we hung 10 of our Soldiers Banners on Main Street, we were in our second parade at the Susanville Veterans Day Parade, we conducted our first large scale packing party shipping a total of 180 boxes shipped overseas and we swore in our newly elected Chapter Officers.

 

And in December we helped assist with the Casino Fundraiser to benefit the Reger & Ritz Boys, whose fathers were killed in the Mountain Life Flight Helicopter crash, we had our first family gathering at our Christmas Potluck and we served at the Joint Veterans Christmas Banquet.
